Cinema is art and art is subjective. The Oscars are a form of politics in Hollywood in which The Academy determines what films are "worthy" of The Academy's recognition. This amounts to an objective opinion of what art is good, and objectivity has no place in art.
They got pretty screwed four(?) years ago when they didnt award any black people. So obviously when over half of the films awards are to minorities in what I thought were mediocre at best films (inb4 "omg no greenbook is literally the best") I'm going to be pretty skeptical
14 out of 24 of the films went to minority leading casters, or minorities themselves.
As /u/RedN1ne points out,
Three confusing white old people who won best makeup and ended up with muted mic ? Their speech lasted one minute before the music started playing which got them additional ~20/30 sec. Black woman who got an award for Production Design ? Her speech lasted 2 minutes 20 seconds and the music didn't even started playing.
Also the whole "not your fault thing" made me burst out in laughter. What the hell is that doing there? PR stunt. It's like they're just trying to do everything too right so they don't fucking offend anyone.
Is this how modern society is? Compelled speech everywhere we direct our attention?
