The Oscars should just be roundtable discussions with the nominees with the winners being announced at the end of each one

With each new decision the producers of the Academy Awards make, it becomes more abundantly clear that they don't realize a majority of the people who would be interested in watching an award show celebrating the greatest achievements of the year in film are film lovers. But for some reason they keep insisting on drawing in a general audience and pandering to what's popular and talked about in that year.

I understand the whole appeal for the spectacle of the Oscars where all the biggest Hollywood stars are together for one big night with the finest suits and most elegant dresses. And I personally have fun watching all that but if I wanted to see celebrities dress nice and pose for photos I can do that with Pinterest and Us Weekly.

You have some of the most talented, witty, intelligent and hilarious people all in one room together and all you do with them is plop them in chairs and have them clap and awkwardly laugh at the horribly corny and unfunny jokes you make them say.

If they're truly the top talent in the industry and we want to celebrate their work then let's give them center stage. Let's give them some time to discuss their passion and influences and struggles in their line of work instead of just giving the winner 30 seconds to thank their friends and family while you drown them out in music cause you need to save time for Common to perform.

Some of the categories are so rushed through it's like the awards become an afterthought in an AWARD show. If you really want us to care about them don't just show 10 second clips of the nominees so the viewers at home can widely guess which of the 5 movies we've never seen wins best costume design.

I know it kinda sounds like a boring idea but I think one of the most compelling and inspiring things is listening to someone talk about something they're truly passionate about. So my idea for fixing the Oscars is bringing the nominees from each category on stage, grabbing Charlie Rose or Stephen Galloway or some other great interviewer and just let them go. I wanna hear the set designers talk to each other about their craft and decisions they made for the film. I wanna hear the composers discuss their influences and how they worked with the directors to compose beautiful scores. I wanna see that they deserve to be recognized and not just there because their producers threw the best press screening and got their film the most buzz.

The nominee choices are a whole other discussion but unfortunately too many people are in the mindset that nominated=good movie. And some people will be turned off entirely because a film looks like "Oscar bait". But if you actually sit the creators down so we can pick their brains we'll be able to see for ourselves who's actually passionate about their work and who's full of shit. It'll open up more discussions about their works and hopefully even get people more interested in seeing something they aren't usually interested in seeing. I couldn't name you a nominee from last year for best Documentary Short and I'm sure most of them were great but the Academy sure did a piss poor job in making me want to go out and find a way to watch them.

I know a lot won't agree with me on all this but I just see the Oscars spiraling down even further into a forced uninteresting and preachy mess that I just fear for the day when it's the 120th Academy awards and I watch Ke$ha win best actress while Robert Duval gets slimed on stage in a desperate attempt to keep the Oscars relevant to the world.

I just think it'd be a lot more uplifting to watch someone be awarded a statue after showing their true love for their craft than just having a B list celebrity rush through the nominee list and then say a winner.

Also stop acting like you're all Jesus for supporting women in film when minutes later you hand a statue to Kobe (I Changed My Jersey Number So People Forget I'm a Rapist) Fucking Bryant!
