Vanilla Sky or Open Your Eyes, which film is better? Which one should I watch?

Vanilla Sky is an American remake of the Spanish film Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos), it stars Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaze and Penelope Cruz.

On Reddit and over the internet I have seen a lot of mixed opinions about which film is better. I've heard arguments that the original feels more like dream, more stylistic and descends more in to horror territory - overall, feeling like more of a dream. Whereas others have commented that Vanilla Sky is a more solid film, with a great performance by Tom Cruise, better cinematography and a great soundtrack.

So this poses a difficult problem for me. Which one should I watch?

I take film seriously and don't want to ruin what sounds like a sci-fi classic and I love dark pschological movies.

I generally believe that the original is always the best, with some exceptions. However exceptions to the rule like remakes of The Thing, A Star Is Born (2019), Ocean's Eleven, Scarface, The Fly, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels etc which I believe are (far) superior are usually complete reimaginings, usually completely different to the source material. But with the case of Vanilla Sky, I hear that it is very similar and in some instances a shot-for-shot remake and that the only changes come at the end.
