We need more films like Ant Man and the Wasp

So, I watched Ant Man and the Wasp in theaters and enjoyed it. At the time thought it was fine passable, if not lower end Marvel grade entertainment.

Upon later viewings I’ve come to realize we’re really not getting enough of what films like this have to offer.

It’s a film entirely comfortable in its own skin. It doesn’t need to save the world, but rather set up its own small scale emotional stakes and deliver on those stakes.

I’m not sure entirely how to articulate it but it maintains an emotional integrity throughout the entire film that is honestly absent in most films nowadays.

I watched it with my girlfriend who is usually pretty out on “superhero” films but was enthralled by this one simply on the merit that it was predominantly centered around a small cast we cared about versus some global scale crisis.

It was able to tell jokes and even poke fun at itself as well as the marvel universe at large.

Hopefully we see more of this type of storytelling in the future and directors can aknowledge it’s not always about wormholes in the sky but rather making the small things feel important m, no pun intended.
