What Men Want vs What Women Want

I drag my feet to go see movies at the theater, and I know this one has been out for a while, but husband and I had a day off and miraculously both felt like going out.

I loved What Women Want, and figured this one would be good too. Eh...no. My husband liked it better than I did.

So I rewatched WWW to see why that one (IMO) was so much better. First off, it’s actually funny. They focus on the women, and Mel Gibson’s character helps move THEIR story along, like when he boosts their confidence (although I can see why some ppl might think “they don’t need no man’s help”).

He works through his shit at work and at home with his daughter, and actually becomes a better person.

Also, Helen Hunt is beautiful and elegant. It’s a solid movie, supporting cast is great. The camera angles were more...varied, instead of what I feel nowadays is replaced by the glossy, professional one size fits all style. But I didn’t go to film school.

In WMW, I was never comfortable. The poker scene with cameos (whyyyyy) was not funny. And a fart? Seriously? Yeah, we all do it, move on.

All the men’s inner thoughts were typical bro shit, and I wish they’d gone deeper or at least varied what guys thought.

The girl friend group definitely needed to be recast or have dialogue rewritten because those women had no chemistry. And I’ve seen all but one in other stuff, and liked them just fine.

Tracy Jordan is awesome in 30 Rock and The Last OG, but he didn’t shine in this role.

Overall the movie seemed forced. I liked the single dads POV, so maybe more time could’ve been given to him?

Anyway, we all know Mel Gibson’s crazy but if you don’t mind feel good movies, check out What Women Want!
