When was the term "Asexual" involved in describing humans?

With all the current charged topics being thrown about, it always made me angry when people claimed to be asexual. When I learned about asexual reproduction in Biology, it meant an organism reproducing without another organism, so when everyone claims to be asexual, meaning not being attracted to any gender, i was taken a-back. I was about to post something about in on r/unpopularopinions, and decided to do a lil' research before looking like an idiot. Google and Wikipedia both described it as not being attracted to anyone, which, again, confused me. Is that definition recent, or have I just been ignorant this whole time?
