I erroneously said that the similarities between Rose and then Alita letting go shortly after promising not to do so was just lazy writing on Jim Cameron's part, until another redditor informed me that Jack's descent into the sea may have been based off the original Alita comics as she let go in 1993- before "Titanic" was written. And for all these years, we never knew that! Silly me.
