What if stars suck up enough matter to become black holes, and each black hole gives birth to a new universe inside with different physical characteristics (different speed of light, pairs of subatomic particles, etc.). The only universes to pass on their characteristic “genes” to the next would be those that form black holes. It would be sort of like a universal scale of evolution with parent universes eventually dying off.
