Donald Glover once said in an interview that playing a rapper in Atlanta would seem whack to him. And the same thing applies to Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born, at least for me. She does a fine job, I don’t hate her performance at all and she brings the necessary singing requirements. But she just felt distracting to me and pulled me out of the film entirely, especially when Bradley Cooper disappeared so easily into his character. And it only got worse later in the film when she becomes more of a pop star, it just felt like I was watching a Lady Gaga biopic or something. And it’s not even like 8 Mile where Eminem is supposed to be playing a version of himself, she’s suppose to be a character. It just felt off to me watching Lady Gaga play a pop star, anyone else feel that way? I can’t even explain it, it was just off to me.
Please don’t misconstrue that I hate her or her performance. She did a fine job.
