I am an old time friend of Barry Jenkins (he's not just an amazing director but amazing person). Sadly lost touch with him around 10 years ago. He always told me he wanted to direct movies, and I just kind of shrugged it off. I didn't realize that he actually suceeded until I was watching the Academy Awards and saw him get up for Best Picture, with my reaction being "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S Barry!"
Anyone I have seen his two most recent and widely acclaimed ones. Is his debut worth watching?
