Hi! I'm a filmmaker looking for supplementary materials for myself and actors for a role I've written. The character, an aspiring writer who's on a 10-year creative block, is going through a manic state of depression, lives a bland, loveless life with a wife and children, and ultimately loses control. Though capable of kindness and gentleness, he is largely a lost alcoholic. He is timid and quiet and not incredibly sociable.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'd love to see them. (Please provide links, if you could).
edit: I’m thinking more on the end of something like The Lost Weekend or Punch Drunk Love. The story takes place in the 50s, and, no, personality wise the character is nothing like Jack Torrence. I was inspired by the likes of In Cold Blood and Naked Lunch for this story, no where near Kubrick’s wonderful ghost story horror film.
edit: Can I not keep on being criticized please? It’s just a general description but there’s so much more to the story than that that differentiates from other materials, and I’m sorry if I didn’t make that clear enough at first (hesitance is an instinct if you’re describing one of your projects). I added some more stuff so hopefully that helps. I just need some cool film knowledge y’all.l, but thanks for your interest nonetheless. :)
