I just did another post about the British crime-romance Stormy Monday, wherein I realized that it was an early film shot by Roger Deakins.
When I checked to see how early on his IMDb page, I realized that his first movie was a film I always thought looked incredible, but hadn't realized had been shot by him: Michael Radford's 1984 --which came out that title year.
And dig this odd tangle: Deakins has said how he was inspired by Scott's cinematographer on Blade Runner, Jordan Cronenweth, when he shot Stormy Monday. Then, after Deakins shot 1984, Scott made that famous "Big Brother" Superbowl TV ad introducing the Apple Macintosh (actually called "1984") in which he did exact copies of Deakins' images from Radford's science fiction film. Then, Deakins eventually went on to shoot the sequel to Scott's Blade Runner, the exquisite-looking Blade Runner 2049.
Two other fantastic early films I didn't realize Deakins had shot: Sid and Nancy and Mountains of The Moon.
Here are a couple of Deakins' images from 1984:

One last down-the-rabbit-hole bit of TRIVIA: The cinematographer who copied the above image in Scott's "1984" ad was Adrian Biddle --who went on to shoot Aliens, The Princess Bride, Willow, Event Horizon, The Mummy and V For Vendetta.
