I think it is a fair statement that the general opinion on TAG is that is not that not great, but I would have to disagree. While I understand some of the points being made, I believe that the case is that it is actually good movie that suffers from a few of its flaws. Now before you say "well if it has flaws then it can't be a good movie", let me just explain that all films, great or terrible, have flaws. And, for the great films, we're able to understand and look past those flaws. However, with TAG, for some reason, those flaws affect the entire movie, causing it to get it's unfair opinions.
Here's what I mean. Think of all the good that is in this film:
-The incredible ensemble, with special mentions to Jeremy Renner and Isla Fisher
-The genius "tag" scenes
-The clever humour (*cough* Hannibal Buress)
-The nice overall message
-The fact that it is based off a true story
and many other things. All together, you have a pretty strong comedy that worked. But due to some flaws, all of that doesn't matter. For example
-The miscarriage moment
-The tumour reveal
and that's about it (you can definitely point out some other things wrong, but these are the main reasons for my case). People don't like serious themes in their comedy. I'm not saying that it's our fault for not wanting that, I'm saying that people shouldn't determine a movie, based on a thing that made them definitely not like it. Now, am I saying that this film is one of the greatest ever? No. But, I am defending it from being perceived as a bad film. It probably would have been better if these weren't apart of the movie, but we can't change that. So from these few bad things, it is then decided that TAG is nothing great. You might not like this film for other reasons, but this is what I feel is the problem with this movie being seen as not good (I don't say bad because I don't think it weighs onto that side much).
