This past year has weirdly had a lot of unnecessary sequels to really great movies.
All 3 of these movies share the exact same descriptions. They follow up 3 amazing movies, all unique in their own way, and while the sequel for each is not bad per se, it's just... meh?
Incredibles was an amazing movie, and people were actually clamoring for a sequel since 2004, probably the only pixar property where it made sense to have a sequel. But they waited too long and the sequel they did come up with was just... really? 14 years and that's the story they came up with?
Wreck it Ralph was a very fun movie, very unique, and I thought it was utterly brilliant, heartwarming and paid homage to video games in the best possible way (by not listening to gamers and just being a bunch of references to different video game types and characters. The ones they did use, they used well) . But the sequel left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad, but the main plot was actually the meh part this time and the Disney references were the only highlight, if they can be called a highlight.
Then finally Lego movie 2. Lego movie was also one of those fun little movies with a nifty concept. 2 wasn't bad but it just doesn't measure up to the first.
I just find it interesting that we got 3 sequels that share the same fault.
