Why haven't I heard any praise for Terry Gilliam's 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote'? So many master filmmakers have failed to bring the classic novel to life. Even Gilliam tried previously and failed. Then they made a documentary about that attempt, with footage from star Johnny Depp. This must have fueled Gilliam, the great response to the documentary and social media, because he restarted and finished his take on Don Quixote. I watched it, taking it all in, and found myself wishing the movie would just go on forever, like the book. Adam Driver plays the role Depp was probably supposed to play, and they got Jonathan Pryce, who previously worked with Gilliam on 'Brazil', to play Don Quixote himself. Both the lead actors are perfect, and Driver steals the show. I think the movie adapted the best parts of the book with the joy and wonder being seen through Gilliam's lens. In a year with such let downs, I definitely pick 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' as one of my favorite movies of 2018. Check it out.
