So, I was thinking about how so many films, no matter how great in quality, often find a common flaw that the third act of the film (usually associated with final battles, but spans to anything else), is a let-down in comparison to the rest of the film. Now that's not a constant attribute of all films, some have alright third acts that don't demand any criticism. But, I wanted to know about some films where the third act is really good, potentially even the best act in the film.
One film that I can think of that defiantly has an incredible third act is Inception (2010). An incredible films all together, but the third act is where it really kicks into gear. The first two thirds of the film are great at establishing the whole schtick of the film and explaining how dreaming works, as well as setting up the heist very intricately so that we know what's happening. But as soon as they go down into the first level, Christopher Nolan proves why it's his masterpiece. Telling the story on four different levels, all at different paces, interconnecting to create tension, while giving each level its own style and feel. The action was incredible - massive shoutout to the Hallway Fight Scene. The concept of that alone is awesome and could have been done in a very simple way, but Nolan made it so much cooler, creating an actual rotating hallway and having the actors train in it. Then there's the story. Usually the story kind of goes away for the sake of the big spectacle, but this one keeps its head and not once did the heist ever feel like it was going on too long or forgot about the actual story. It's just a brilliant act that definitely owes itself to the incredible build up that is the first two acts, giving an epic payoff. And how can you talk about the third act of Inception without mentioned that final shot. Damn. Christopher Nolan really accomplished something extraordinary.
What other films have third acts that are the best in the film?
