Riding Skiddo let you jump over barriers, and riding Rhyhorn let you go over rocky terrain you couldn't cross without it. Basically like Ride Pokémon in Sun and Moon, except in Sun and Moon they went an extra step further and removed HMs with Ride Pokémon. In particular, the rocky paths with Rhyhorn in XY are very reminiscent of the rocky paths you can cross with Mudsdale Ride in Alola.
Sorry this is very Pokémon-centric but I think it still counts as a shower thought since it's a random thought that makes sense if you're a Pokémon fan.
