The IP was recognizable enough, certainly popular in the gaming circles. The trailers were decent. Nothing looked wrong with it before it came out, unlike other video game movies like the recent Sonic.
Was it timing? Did it come at a point where people had zero faith in video game adaptations? Did it seem too fantasy/gamey like for the non-gamer crowd? People by this point were already invested in Game of Thrones, and its mature, more realistic take on fantasy could have made Warcraft look silly. Was the budget too big?
I don't know. I've read theories but what do you think was the largest factor that caused people to be uninterested?
Side note: I saw it, thought it was OK. A bit cheesy and the plot was scattered but it was still entertaining.
