I've seen this in some TV shows and such, though at least to me (as an American) fish is nothing more than a type of meat. Which cultures do this and how did they come up with that distinction?
E.g. if listing types of food on a table, they'll say "meat, fish, vegetables" while I don't think I've ever heard an English-speaker with an American accent bother to separate meat and fish in that manner.
