When referring to years between 2000 and 2009, we read them as just one number but when referring to years before 2000 or after 2009, we read them as two numbers.

Examples: 2005 “Two Thousand Five” 1999 “Nineteen ninety-nine” 2019 “Twenty Nineteen”

Some people read years 2010 and up as one number but not many people (dare I say, any) refer to years below 2000 as one number”
