I saw the film a while ago.
This film does everything right. Its got characters, plot, pacing is correct. I can praise this for hours but that would be boring and the fans of Rise probably understand why I love it.
I guess its competition was Frozen, Mega Mind, How to train your Dragon etc.
But compared to those it handles the plot way better. Like, we never got an explanation as to where Elsa got her powers or why is Metro Man doing music now, why the 'dragons' are mindless dogs obeying humans in HOTYD. Rise does not have any of these weird things ruining the plot. People complained about the Russian Santa, but the Russian thing is just a coat of paint, in his core he still does what Santa does. Unlike the others with flat out dysfunctional characters.
The only thing I can complain about is how Jack can pick up Sophie, where before it was shown that people phase through him. Also Hugh should have played Fenrir.
Why did an awesome film like Rise of the Guardians fail?
