We are talking Iain M Banks' Culture novels here. Now i know that the specific subject matter is clearly very far removed from The Culture but for the life of me when I left the theatre aside from being generally impressed (a great film not without its flaws) all I could think of was the similarity to the structure and pacing and general tone of a culture novel. The main point I can see that separates it from being completely culture-esque is the fact that we have one man solely responsible for "saving the world", a trope Banks hated
I doubt we will ever see a culture film and it's almost certainly for the best as it would likely be unfilmable in any way that would be nourishing to any one.
Can anyone think of a film that they consider to be the best contender for a "kinda-Culture" film?
