Brad Pitt's performance in Ad Astra is better than his performance in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

I know a lot of people on this sub outright called for an Oscar nomination for Pitt for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good performance, but I hesitate to call it amazing. It pales in comparison to Leo's performance tbh. Yes, Cliff is a lot more likeable then Rick, but that's largely due to writing. All things considered, Cliff Booth was quite a one dimensional character. The strong silent stoif archetype is certainly likeable....Pitt brought a tremendous charisma to the role but it's not Oscar worthy.

Now I'm not saying Pitt's performance in Ad Astra is oscar worthy, compared to other lead performances, it just isn't (on a side note, I hope Taron Egerton wins for Rocketman). However, I think its superior to his performance in Once Upon A Time.

Pitt nails Ad Astra. He starts off as the quiet stoic type (similar to Cliff, his character Cliff not his dad lol, cos his dad in Ad Astra is also called Cliff). However as the film progresses we see the character eventually break down. Pitt executes the layered and nuanced character rather well...and I think he hits every beat perfectly.

If you see the above CNN interview, its immediately apparent that Ad Astra is more of an emotional role for Pitt. Pitt is able to bring the emotions of his real life struggle and channel them into his character in Ad Astra....I think his performance was compelling and certainly superior to his character in Once Upon.

His Ad Astra character has about the same amount of lines, if not less than Cliff in Once Upon. But I think he does it better.
