Just am surprised no one is talking about this. Does anyone know how big the release is? (I.e. number of theaters?)
Saw the sub last night. What a great ride. Definitely evokes the creators' former works, so, style-wise, they are on-point. I noticed reference to Gurren Laggan but haven't seen Kill la Kill so can't comment on that.
I really enjoyed the story, the main characters had some great arcs, though at times it felt that a lot of the side characters were written a little thin. I won't remember most of their names. Some do really stand out though. I'd say things dragged a little bit in the early middle section after the first big action setpiece, but overall it was very well paced. And the third act was just so wild I'm gonna have to see it a couple more times to process everything.
Overall, it at least met my expectations for a film from these guys, if not exceeded them. Highly recommended. The animators on this are among the best working today. Worth the price of admission on the visuals alone.
Hot takes welcome. Lets discuss!
