I go to a career school for about half the day while the other half is at my standard home school. At this career school, you receive a grade out of ten based on several factors every day. I am very particular about my grades and according to the policy at this school, an unexcused absence is counted as a zero for the day while an excused absence is counted as a five.
I don't have too much of an issue with the zero for the unexcused absence, but I am planning to meet with school administrators to hopefully get the policy changed regarding the grade for excused absences. A student should not be getting punished for staying home while sick or dealing with a family issue. Schools will advocate students to stay home if sick, but I would not stay home knowing that every day I miss, my grade is dwindling. Pardoning a student's grade instead of basing a grade off of them not being present, without any knowledge of what's going on with their body or mind, would be the best case in my opinion.
I know this was a bit rushed so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'd like to hear about any supporting or opposing opinions on this; maybe if anyone has a better solution, I would appreciate a comment. Thank you!
