So the ceiling fan that comes with a light, which I'd bought a few months ago had stopped responding to the remote, despite our changing to new batteries.
The fan also didn't make a beeping sound when you clicked on the main switch, like it usually does although the light comes on (can't get the fan to start without the remote though).
When we called the shop (it's covered under warranty for 12 months), their guy came over when I wasn't around and told my wife that it was due to... the batteries?
The remote uses standard AAA batteries, and we didn't get any super special brand or anything like that. Just standard Energizers.
He told my wife not to use so-called "good brands" (the remote came with generic, no-name batteries).
Anyhow, I thought that sounded fishy, but the remote seemed to work again, so I brushed it aside. Fast forward a month, and it started happening again.
So we switched to the Energizer batteries we had laying around, and it started working again for about a week or two, and then the same problem occurred.
Called up the shop. They'll be sending over the guy again, but he'd spoken with my wife and again mentioned the batteries.
Is there any merit to his claim? Or do you think they're trying to run out the clock so they won't have to service it anymore? Also, if anybody knows a possible fix, please let me know!
TL;DR Possibly bought a faulty ceiling fan from a shop that I suspect is trying to run out the clock on the warranty with short-term "fixes" so they won't have to change the unit.
