Recently saw the trailers for Pixar's Soul & 20th Century Fox's Spies in Disguise & I couldn't help but wonder why Hollywood won't let black folks stay black folks when they headline their own animated films. Do toys featuring black folks sell less? Are their stories only interesting when they've shape shifted into something smaller & more palpable?
After Tiana, this is now three for three & that makes a pattern. Heck, I might as well include Lion King into this mix at this point.
I love animated movies. I love Disney, Pixar, & Fox - I just want to know why this continues to happen. :-(
