I love movies, but what sucks for me is that when a character dies, I don’t feel surprised. Movies just aren’t surprising unless there is a twist. Memento is great because there is a twist, it’s one of those movies where you are in the main character’s shoes and the ending is perfect, it totally sweeps you off your feet. The same goes for The Sixth Sense, I know that these are both thrillers and both have twists but movies where they attempt to surprise you with a death let’s say, aren’t surprising at all. As a kid I was surprised when the character died unexpectedly but when that happens now, it sucks but it’s just kinda meh.
Movies just aren’t surprising, I’ve seen the same "surprises" the directors try to pull all too many times and I expect the characters to die now (i say character deaths because that’s the only surprise that i can think of other than a twist).
Is it the same for you?
