Joker should win Best Picture and here's why...

Personally, it doesn't matter. There is no best picture and there is no "correct way" to make something like a movie. No film is better than any other because it's all purely subjective and in the eye of the beholder.

Anyway/Although, in terms of pop-culture and significance, for the times we are currently in, in a time where shootings are glorified by the media and abundant, where a film like Joker is fear-mongered by that same media and feared by people because of it's "influence" (and that's just from the suggestion of it before the film came out), where comic-book films rule the box-office and are hated by "elitists", in a time where everyone wants to be heard and yet no one feels that they are, where everyone has a voice (through social media) and yet they still feel like they don't, where individuals feel powerless to society and the corporations/big-wigs that rule it, mental illness is controversial; Joker signifies and embodies all of these qualities of wanting to be heard, wanting to feel in control of their lives, having their life mean something in the face of their destruction, feeling power in their powerlessness.

Because Joker is feared by so many and because it is essentially the voice (hidden fantasy) inside every one of us who has some intelligence to notice the world around them (anyone with a brain, anyone who is alive and not in the 1% aka the Thomas Waynes), and because it will upset so many who fear the light shining on something that's truthful in it's power, and because the movie is about just that, it should be in the spotlight over all the others.

I haven't seen the other nominees (I will very soon) and I'll probably love some of them even more than I love Joker, but it's not about which film I think is better, but what film I feel deserves the spotlight in history for it's symbolic significance to our current society (and it's a timeless significance as well).
