Ya no estoy aqui (I'm no longer here)

A film written and directed by Fernando Farias, sarring Juan Gabriel Garcia Trevino, it shows a culture not commonly presented when talking about the North of Mexico. When one thinks about the north of Mexico, it is usually about boots and cowboy hats. Ya No Estoy Aqui shows the Kolombiano move from the 90's and the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century. It also show a little bit of how the Narcos starting to take over some of the poor neighborhoods of Monterrey, MX, but the film is mainly about how are life changes and how sometimes our life changes without our control. Ulises is a 17 year old, a leader of a gang called Terkos, who main entertainment is dancing cumbia kolombiana, but through not fault of is own is forced to leave his gang and the city where he grows up. He founds himself in New York when customer and culture is very different from what he costumed and never is able to fit in in the city. The film take us to a series of emotions and at the end, my understanding is that like the saying goes, one can't never come back home ever again. I strongly recommended it is in spanish with subs available in Netflix, but even you speak spanish, you may have a hard time understanding all the slang.
