LPN for 10 years in LTC. During COVID-19 we had an infected hall. It was all isolation rooms. We ran out of PPE. We were using cloth patient gowns as PPE and reusing the same N95 for a week. During one of my 16 hour shifts, I found a brand new box of the blue gowns! Yay! I brought it to the RN who was on the other hall (we shared a nursing station). She told me to put it back because I found it in the nurse manager's office and she "Didn't know what they were being saved for". She wouldn't let me use the PPE.
I ended up filing a complaint with the BON. Hoping I did the right thing? My job is a small nursing home and often times the management wouldn't protect us or care at all that this situation happened so I felt I had to go this far. Did I do the right thing? Or was this an over reaction?
