I’m sure this will get locked because I’m really just venting, but I cannot understate how frustrating it is that the Tom Hanks film Greyhound was purchased by Apple for their streaming service.
I can’t remember the last time I was as excited to see a movie as I was when I first saw the trailer for greyhound. I immediately bought “The Good Shepherd” by C. S. Forester and read it in a day before buying another novel of his called “The Ship”. I’m an avid enthusiast of first and Second World War warships and was thrilled that there would finally be a good (hopefully) modern depiction of Second World War naval warfare. Then covid happened and we all know how that went.
So some months later I get the horrible news that Apple has bought the rights to the film with Sony only maintaining distribution rights in China and some other eastern countries I think. It’s quite a bummer that Apple TV has it and I have to sign up for their free trial bullsh** and cancel just to watch one movie. It’s more of a bummer that the film won’t be seen in theaters. From the trailer alone it seems pretty obvious that film should definitely be experienced on the big screen with movie theater audio.
And now today, the day it WOULD have come out in theaters, Apple TV finally releases the trailer to the “new Apple original film” and it won’t be available until July 10. Ridiculous. Obviously another month isn’t the worst thing in the world, but that on top of all the other malarkey is making me absolutely furious at Sony for selling the damn thing and Apple for being typical Apple. Alright I’m done ranting thanks if you made it this far.
