If you want an incredibly accurate look at cult life in Jehovah's Witnesses, I recommend the movie Apostasy (2017)

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4729896/

I'm in the process of getting out of the JW cult, and this movie is a powerful look at what it's like growing up within it. Everything is accurate, the terminology, the emotions, the crippling lifelong guilt.

Seriously I cannot recommend it enough, when you watch keep in mind that it's all realistic, this is ACTUALLY what we were told and what it was like. It's chilling. It gave me flashbacks to my childhood, and makes me sick that I bought into this shit for so long.

Some of the specifics I appreciated:

One of the characters is only alive because of a blood transfusion as a baby, she lives in guilt and shame because it's forbidden to get a blood transfusion

The boyfriend is incredibly awkward, goes directly for marriage, and has no concept of how to support a family

At the funeral, the disfellowshipped girl received no comfort, even though her sister just died. And it's just a tool to get her back in the cult

The mother's straight up emotional abuse in the name of being a Christian

How I never heard of this movie is beyond me. It's slow, quiet, not an action movie at all. But the emotional punch for anyone who has escaped the cult is incredible.
