Is asian discrimination general in western countries? Or am I just overacted?

We all know some terrible things happened recently, and I'm sad about that, but it also make me recall the memory.

At the beginning of the covid-19, lots of people acted and speak something rude to the Asian people. And there's no one stand up and speak for them.

I'm an asian. I've never been to other countries, so I learn the customs of different countries via my teachers, older relatives and the internet. My teachers and relatives told me that many white people consider our asian as the bottom of the human. However, people I meet in the internet act and talk friendly(even some people help me a lot). I didn't receive any rude or unpolite comments due to my race.

But that just on the internet. I'm curious that how about in the reality? Are people still kind to other race? Or they just want to be a good person on the internet and be an asshole in the reality?
