So I finally watched The Lighthouse

This film was pretty unsettling to say the least. I was entertained by it overall but I was very disturbed by it, but that's what good horror flicks are supposed to do I guess. I can count on my fingers the amount of horror movies I've seen, but this one was probably the freakiest I've seen. I have to say I was pretty confused by it at certain points such as when Ephriam revealed his actual name to be Thomas so it made it hard to distinguish his character from the other Thomas. Also, the accents were pretty hard to understand, but I just turned on subtitles and I was fine after that. The couple of minutes was probably the most disturbing part of the entire film (at least for me). I was a bit confused by it, but I think it has to do with the monologue that Wake was giving when "Ephriam" said he didn't like his cooking.

I've read some comments online about how The Lighthouse was snubbed for many categories and I definitely agree. It only got a nomination for cinematography, which it deserved. Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson should have been at least nominated for their parts. The sound was awesome, the editing was great, and a directing nomination for Robert Eggers would not feel out of place. I don't really know if it would feel weird if it was nominated for best picture, but I wouldn't complain if it was.

I was intrigued by this flick, but I think I will need to watch it at least a one or two more times to fully understand it, which I wouldn't mind doing at all.
