So the whole reason for telling someone "you don't want to know" when asked something it to keep the person from asking any further. But in telling them that, you've told them something is wrong, off, etc and that just leads them to speculate often the worst reasons.
So turns our you're better off lying or being honest than saying "you don't wanna know".
