Forrest Gump is good

...because it is a sober reflection on the history of violence and racism baked into contemporary America and American cinema. Or maybe it's bad because its superficial engagement with American history ends up peddling a problematic ideal of racial colorblindness. Or maybe, to paraphrase Forrest, it's both?
