Almost all his films feature a plot line of two people falling in love when they're in middle school, going years without seeing or hearing from each other, and then meeting up again as adults. Typically near a train station.
And with each proceeding movie in his filmography it gets let's depressing with the out come. In the earlier films they former couple just walked away and it implies the man will never love again and probably die alone and unhappy.
Then in his most recent film, they meet up and they're just happy to see each other.
It's such an odd thing to be present in most of his feature films. I feel like the different outcomes reflect where he is in his life when he made the films.
