So almost a week ago I found a young pigeon tucked away in a corner on my university campus. I didn’t think much of it, but I pass by it every day and it hasn’t moved since I first saw it. It’s right outside my biology classroom and I mentioned it to my professor and he said if it’s injured there’s nothing anyone could do about it so it will just have to be killed. This is what I figured would have to happen, but it hasn’t yet. My professor didn’t do anything about it, because the pigeon is still sitting there. I know it’s still alive because it looks up at me when I check on it every day.
I could never bring myself to reach in there and kill it, but someone has to. It’s saddening me that it just has to sit there and suffer for days and days on end. I know I shouldn’t feed it because that will just prolong its suffering. But who should I contact to have it killed more humanely? Security is the only thing I can think of?? But I feel like they have more important things to worry about. It will have to be removed eventually, since it will die eventually and will be left decomposing in a corner behind a pillar, where other animals might not be able to get at it to eat it.
What should I do????
