Why don't clothing designers like Virgil Abloh just keep a certain amount of pieces for themself and resell them once the stock is sold out and resell prices are 5-10 times higher on websites likes stockx? Is this illegal?

Is this illegal? Would appreciate if anyone could answer this since it seems like an easy way to make a ton of money when you are in control of the actual products being made.
