I just watched the Truman show recently and I have to say that it is amazing. But I’m not here to sing it’s praises, I’m here to tell you about a theory I have. Some spoilers ahead. First, let me give the 5 cent tour on the Truman Show: it’s a movie that stars Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, a guy that doesn’t know that’s he’s apart of a show that’s about him but he doesn’t know. The Director of the show: Christof, wants to keep Truman from finding out about it. Later on, Truman finds out and desperately wants to escape but he’s been faces off against so many obstacles. He finally gets to escapes until Christof tries to convince him that the world he’s walking into is filled with lies and horrors unknown. Truman left anyway but not before basically flipping Christof off. Anyway, what my theory is, that Christof is using the Truman show as way to have a child of his own/having a child that he never gotten. Christof seemed really determined to keep Truman from leaving at all but the kicker is what he said to Truman (this basically what he said, I don’t have time to get a direct quote). He said The world has lies that are no different to the reality that he made for Truman and that he will not like it. Christof seems to have a low opinion on real life; as if he had a bad experience himself. He also talks about when Truman was young and how he lose his first tooth and such; having nostalgia of a time when he was kid. And finally, when Truman was being filmed sleeping, Christof was stroking the face shot of Truman like a parent would their own child. In conclusion, this theory suggest that Christof chose Truman as his “son”/“new son” and created a world where he can keep an eye on him and protect him. And when Truman tries to find out that it’s just a show, Christof loses it and tries everything to keep him in his fantasy world. It’s unsettling once you think about it. Christof is a special kind of crazy to be doing this kind of stuff. It’s almost, if not exactly, an abduction situation. Hopefully those will not experience the same thing that happened to Truman Burbank. This just discussion but I would like to know what you guys think.
