In the Star Wars universe they not only figured out how to travel at the speed of light in ships, they found a way to make communications even faster shown by the instantaneous transmissions between beings spread throughout the galaxy. Example, the Jedi council meets and discusses real time with some Jedi on Coruscant (deep within the boundaries of the republic) and others spread throughout the galaxy including the very outer rim systems where most of the fighting took place near the end of the clone wars.
