Not because of people having supernatural powers, but because these people actually use them selflessly and for the good of others.
That scene in the first Toby Maguire Spider-Man where he lets the bad guy get away on account of him not caring about the guy he just robbed is probably the most realistic depiction of how the average person would handle suddenly having super powers.
