At the end of the movie, when K lay down at the stairs with the BSO of that Rutger Hauer's scene flowing, I thought that Villeneuve maybe let himself indulge into a forced hommage to the original Blade Runner. It's not very subtle.
But minutes later, I became aware that the whole movie preys in the original in some way. It starts with a replicant hunt, McKenzie Davies' character is like a recreation of Daryl Hanna's. Wallace is the new Tyrell, Batista is like a new Rutger Hauer, K spares Deckard's life, Luv fight style and death brought memories of Hannah's scenes to me, Luv' hair and makeup is like Rachel's...
There are a lot, a LOT of scenes, charcters and plot development directly inspired by the original Blade Runner, but never, until the very end, Villeneuve let himself to be as obvious as the chapter VII of Star Wars was.
I felt cheated by Abrams. Not by Villeneuve.
