I thought this was an amazing movie. Everything about it I loved, including the slower-pacing and complex plot. As soon as the credits began to roll, I just sat there staring at the screen.
Once we got out of the theater, my friends instantly started to talk about how stupid and boring that was. Once I started to explain things to them, they still were completely confused. Which is completely fine, movies can be confusing.
But in the car, they built off each other's energy and were complete assholes when we tried to have a conversation about it. I explained much of the movie to them after a series of questions, they mainly had no idea if Ryan Gosling was a replicant or not and thought it was stupid how we don't know if Deckard is human or not. The three of them insisted it was a stupid movie. And ultimately, them dicking around about and giving no effort to try and put the pieces together gave me a sour taste in my mouth about the movie.
They also think Chris Nolan is the greatest director of all time, refuse to watch black and white movies, refuse to watch foreign language movies, and really only watch movies from this past decade. Just to give you some background on what these guys are into.
I wish I would have gone alone to Blade Runner 2049. They're inept ability to have a conversation about a deep-thinking movie really made me feel bad when it should have been one of the best nights of the year, given the fact I've been looking forward to this movie for a long, long time.
Thanks for listening to my rant yall.
TL;dr If your friends struggle with smart movies and don't try to figure them out, go see Blade Runner 2049 alone.
