At my sister's for Christmas vacation and I just caused a fight between her and her husband about watching films with captioning. He hates them and says they take his focus away from the film. My sister and I share the same position that when you have them on you are able to take in much more dialogue usually that you may have never heard or known was said because maybe the actors lips weren't in screen. Lots of variables for why you may miss shit. Subtitles eliminate that for me. Also I'm able to read them with my peripherals while focusing on the film. So to people who like my bro in law hate subtitles for the distractionary reason, why can't you be better? No no just kidding but really why can't you just not look at them? Just if you are curious the movie in question was "Arrival" Edit: if you are one of the people who just can't avert your eyes I welcome you to run this little simulation in your head of a woman breastfeeding in the same room as you but you can't avert your gaze. At what point does it become your problem for having zero fucking self control or discipline? If you can't use your weak fucking brain to avert your eyes from some text at the bottom of the screen you may have some neurological problems. Also sorry I got personal and angry right there...
