I was discussing with some friends, and also saw on other subs I'm a part of, but it seems that when a movie is original but it has bad execution, it is reviled (I originally though of the SW prequels), but if a movie has a bland, unoriginal story, but good acting and execution (I though of TFA), this is overlooked. But why is this?
I think this culture of thinking that if something is unoriginal but well executed is what's allowing Hollywood to do countless of safe, unoriginal movies, while indie directors do their own vision, but to mostly polarizing results (with many people taking Rotten Tomatoes as the "Word of God") because it doesn't fit any established formula.
