So I know that these kinds of posts have happened before, but with the staggered release of this movie I hadn’t got a chance to see it until now. I went in with pretty good expectations, hearing it was a pretty solid del toro film, and at its core it is that, but it is also so much more.
Everything about this film from the characters to the time period to the city is so perfectly chosen to fit and make this story a cohesive unit of multiple interwoven themes and messages. This movie oozes with charm and the care that was put into this project is apparent. You can tell everyone who worked on this film wanted to make it the best they could. It juggles so many themes at once and masterfully pays off every arch.
I’m not saying this is the best movie of all time, I’m not even saying it’s the best movie of this year. But I definitely think that it’s del toros best (probably gonna get flak for that but just my opinion).
If you have the chance, definitely go see this movie.
