So I missed this at the cinema, and have just picked it up now. I’m a huge fan of the Book Series and despite the heavy criticism I was looking forward to seeing it.
Having now seen it, I am more confused than disappointed.
Now I appreciate that King (or part of the production team) has said that this film is not a direct adaptation but a sequel. This makes sense in terms of how the Dark Tower story concludes. But I can’t work out the point of making this film.
Put aside making money, which is the cornerstone of any film. What was this film ever going to achieve? Even as another rotation of the cycle of the Dark Tower it essentially took everything established in the books and removed it to leave names and places. I was under the impression this film was looking to spawn a long reaching franchise? Surely the Dark Tower books are ripe for that sort of investment with a wealth of content.
This film feels like that was never the intention and what’s been made is a Dark Tower Lite. Or a TLDR.
I just don’t understand.
