And although I'm not a big time film maker I have worked on smaller films and indie productions and one of the biggest reasons is CGI shortens schedules for quick turnarounds. Thus the better the CGI gets in graphics the more time is cut which leaves less correction for actual FX editors.
Of course there is good CGI but there's a reason most sucks. Like superhero films. It's laughably bad how for example Avengers looked, etc.
Finally, CGI touch up shortens actors schedules and in many cases their pay. But it's mostly saving on union and permit costs.
So CGI in general still a joke until at least 2030.
